Kaiser Permanente Half Marathon, 10K & 5K: Your Questions Answered

The Kaiser Permanente Half Marathon & 5K is this Sunday, February 2nd. And of course you have lots of questions! Here are the answers you need. More information is available on the Race Day page.

Can I Still Register?

Yes, in-person registration is open until Saturday at 7 p.m., but there is no registration on the day of the race. See all registration information here.

When Does the Race Start?

Start time is at 8:10 am for both the Half Marathon and 10K. It’s 8:00 a.m. sharp for the 5K.

Where Do We Start the Race?

The starting gate is at John F. Kennedy Drive east of Stow Lake Drive. Please note, the start gate will be open for 10 minutes only; all runners and walkers must start by 8:10 am. Here is a map of road closures to help you get there.

Can I Check Gear?

Yes, there will be a gear check booth (look for the Budget truck) in the start area on John F. Kennedy Drive near Transverse. Checked items will be transported to the post-race expo, where you can claim them with your bib number.

Where Do We Finish?

All finish areas are in the southwest corner of Golden Gate Park. The 10K and half marathon finish area is on Bernice Rogers Way near Martin Luther King Drive. The 5K finish area is a block away on Martin Luther King Drive.

What Should I Do If I Haven’t Received My Bib Number?

If you haven’t received your race bib, you  can pick it up at the Will Call tent in the start area. Please allow extra time to pick up a bib.  Will Call will be open from 6:30 a.m. – 7:45 a.m.  If you’ve lost your bib number, volunteers at Will Call will direct you for problem solving.

Where Can I Park?

Parking is VERY limited so it should be your last choice.

  • There is paid parking available at the Concourse Underground Garage – Enter via tunnel from Fulton Street at 10th Ave.
  • There is some street parking north of the Great Highway parking lots up to and above the Cliff House with shuttles to the start.
  • There is limited parking in the Great Highway Beach parking lot with shuttles to the start.

Warning: Do not park in business parking lots such as those for Safeway or the Beach Chalet or your car may be ticketed and towed.

Can I Bike to the Race?

Yes! The SF Bike Coalition is providing free safe bike parking services from 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the lawn at 47th and Fulton.

Where Can I Be Dropped Off?

The best place to have a driver drop you off is Fulton Street at the corner of Park Presidio Blvd. This is the ‘Rose Garden’ entrance – you will walk through the Rose Garden to JFK and the start will be to your right (west) on JFK. There are no drop-offs or parking in the start area.

Are There Shuttles?

Yes. Pre-race shuttles will pick up riders at the corner of Fulton and the Great Highway and from the bus stop above the Cliff House. Shuttles will run between  6:00 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. The last shuttles will leave promptly at 7:45 a.m. so don’t be late! Here is a map of the pre-race shuttle route and stops.

Post-race shuttles will run from the corner of Fulton Ave. at the Great Highway back to the Start Area, to Fulton and 8th Avenue near the Concourse parking, and to the USS San Francisco Memorial parking lot. Shuttles will run from from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Click here for a downloadable map of the post-race shuttle.
